Ugandan athlete Stephen Kiprotich broke Uganda’s 40-year Olympic jinx last month when he won gold in the 42km marathon event on the last day of the London Olympics last month. His feat has turned out to be a source of inspiration but all in all, a life changer to the 23-year old.
Kiprotich was invited to be the chief guest at the Hengshui Lake International Marathon in Hebei province, China over the weekend. It is the first international event held in Hengshui but it attracted many top players from Hengshui and abroad to take part in the competition. The Hengshui Sports Bureau is currently carrying out 22 sports events including a long-distance running competition, a tug-of-war competition, a chess competition, a badminton game, a martial arts competition and the marathon test event.
He returns from Asia on Tuesday and he will head to Iten, Kenya for intensive training. Kiprotich will together with his foreign manager Jos Hermens, the head of Global Sports Communication, a company that represents 120 athletes from 20 different countries, will agree on what events the athlete will enter next season as well as meeting international companies that want to associate with the runner.
