
DMark Power finished the game with an 8-0 run and survived Yusuf Mohamed’s game high 38 points to hold off Miracle 98-88 on Friday night at YMCA. “We believe in team play. We tried to do that and won the game.” Power’s Joseph Ikong (23 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists) told Kawowo Sports after the game.
Power took the first quarter 28-17 but Miracle opened the second period with a 15-4 run to tie the game at 32 before rallying past the defending champions with an 11-4 run to take a 43-36 lead with 2:02 to half time. Miracle’s 3-point play didnt work out in the 3rd as they hit just 1 of 6. Power (5-0) started the quarted with a 6-0 run and Miracle (1-4) called for a time-out and on returning Ben Komakech (13 points) was sent to the foul line, sunk both throws and knocked down a 3-ball seconds later to take Power’s lead to double digits, 66-56 with 3:45 to end the quarter.
In the final quarter, Miracle faught back and came with in 2 (90-88) 2:17 from the buzzer but went ice cold all the way. Yusuf Mohamed’s game high 38 points went along with 5 dimes. The point guard went 7-for-15 beyond the arc, 6-for-9 on the field goals and nailed down 5 of the 7 non contested shots. “He got a green card to play and do everything. He is a good point guard you cant deny that.” Ikong said of Yusuf’s performance.
Ronnie Nsubuga picked up 12 points and pulled down 19 rebounds for Miracle and Raymond Bukenya’s 19 points were also in a losing effort. Isaac Lugudde posted another big performance for Power with 20 points and teammate Jimmy Enabu picked up a double-double (17 points, 12 rebounds).
In the womens division, A1 Challenge torched Magic Stormers 72-35 behind Laris Katungeko’s 15 points & 13 rebounds. Carol Mugisha added game high 17 points for A1 while Kakunda led Stormers with 9 points.
