Wounded Power seek redemption against Angels

If you don’t remember the last time Dmark Power lost back-to-back games in the regular season then your memory is as good as mine. Powers’ 63-70 loss to Eagles on Sunday was their second on a trot but most notably the third in the last four games. You probably would not be entirely wrong to say the defending champions are out of form basing on performances and results of the past four or five games.

Power (9-3) returns to YMCA to face Ndejje University Angels this evening in a bid to snap their two game skids. No doubt rebounding has been a major issue for Power lately. They were dominated and battered on the boards by KIU (44-38), Falcons (34-30) and Eagles (44-35). But much as rebounding has been Powers’ biggest undoing, ineffectiveness in shooting and mastering of Powers’ game by opponents also explains their demise. Power has shot an average of 38.3% from inside, 25.6% beyond the arc and 56.4% on the line in the three losses.

Power traditionally plays a high intensity game with quick transition and a sequence of passing that breaks the opponent’s defensive setup. However, in all their losses, opponents were able to defend their game play, grinded for every ball and forced Power into tough contested outside shots. Eagles allowed power 8 fast break points, Falcons and KIU allowed 6 each on fast breaks. When trailing, Power always tries to defend from high the court but even when they tried to press higher somehow KIU, Falcons and Eagles broke the press to hold them off.

Angels (6-6) lost to Power in the first round after playing hard and threatened to make the game down the stretch before falling short by 7. Everything at Angels hinges on Geoffrey Soro and if he is out of sync they are less done. The university side has lost just one of the last four but after losing to Heaters in the last outing, Power is not the best opponent to bounce back on.

Meanwhile in women’s division, it is a battle of former champions as KCC Leopards and A1 Challenge face off in what should be a thriller in the division.
