Zambia Vs Uganda (1st leg of the final round of the 2013 AFCON qualifiers)
Uganda Cranes camp has been boosted by the arrival of skipper Andrew Mwesigwa for preparations ahead of the first leg of the final round of AFCON 2013 qualifiers against Zambia.
The Ordabasy FC defender tounched down on home soil early Friday morning and headed straight to camp to prepare for the crucial qualifier in Ndola next Saturday.
Mwesigwa joins a list of other professionals that include Mike Sserumaga, Isaac Isinde (St. George, Ethiopia), Emmanuel Okwi (Simba, TZ), Hamis Kiiza (Yanga, TZ) and Hassan Wasswa (Kayseri, Turkey) who are already with the team.
According to the national team media officer Fred Katende “Malibu”, the Iceland duo of midfielder Tony Mawejje and custodian Abel Dhaira will be the last batch to jet in on Tuesday. TP Mazembe’s Patrick Ochan is expected in the country on Monday while Vietnam based winger Moses Oloya will jet in tomorrow.
The team leaves for Zambia on Thursday with hope of posting a decent result in the first leg before settling matters in the return leg at fortress Namboole stadium in the second leg scheduled for October 12th.
Uganda’s last appearance at Africa’s biggest show piece was in 1978 finishing runners up after losing to Ghana 2-0 in the finals while Zambians are the current continental champions after beating Ivory Coast in the finals last year.
