SCVU 4-1 Soana
Newly promoted side SC Victoria University continued with its fine form in pre-season games Thursday morning by hammering big league side Soana – Misindye 4-1 in a match played at Mandela stadium Namboole.
Sadam Ibrahim Juma opened the scoring as early as the second minute hitting a rebound from a missed spot kick after winger Charles Tibingana was fouled in the forbidden area.
The visitors levelled matters ten minutes when Timothy Musigunzi’s 30 yard ferocious shot beat custodian Ali Kimera to find the back of the net. At this moment, both teams continued to attack with Hamis Kitagenda coming close for giving the visitors a lead while Abege, Saddam Juma and Edwin Kagende also missing chances for the hosts.
However, Kagende restored SCVU’s lead in the 32nd minute with a good finish off a brilliant Sadam Juma free kick to ensure the hosts finished the first half on top.
After recess, SCVU came out the better side dominating the game though Soana’s Mahad Mbaziira came close to scoring an equaliser in the 47th minute from a free kick but Kimera was up to the task.
A minute later, referee Aisha Ssemambo awarded SCVU a penalty after Charles Tibingana who had a good day at office forced a hand ball from defender Kizito. George Abege did no mistake but send goalie Mathias Kigonya the wrong direction for the hosts third.
Soana introduced former KCC FC winger Siraje Turyahebwa for Hamis Kitagenda and he tried to bring some brilliance to the visitor’s side forcing a good save from Kimera.
In the 88th minute, striker Patrick Owori was recalled to the team put the icing on the cake with a well worked goal between George Abege and Lawrence Bakiranze to put the game beyond Soana’s reach.
The win was SCVU’s second a row after thumping Maroons FC 3-0 in their last outing on Saturday last week. The game also marked Denis Guma’s return to the team since the 1-4 loss to the Uganda Hippos in July.
