5 Star SC Villa Storm Bell Uganda Cup Q uarters

2009 Uganda Cup Champions SC.Villa stormed the quarter finals of Bell Uganda Cup in a fashionable style after hammering big league side Mbarara Old Timers 5-1 in the round of 16 match played this evening at Nakivubo Stadium.

Herman Wasswa opened the scoring in the 3rd minute for the blues after a well laid pass by Kirabira Isaac. Villa continued to attack but wasted a lot of clear

chances especially Muganga Ronald and Ssempa Charles who missed clear cut chances after being laid clear by Wasswa Herman’s perfect crosses. Their would be 2nd goal through Muganga was cancelled for offside. Muganga also hit the cross bar in the 42 minute after a beautiful through ball by Bengo Steven.

Mbarara’s only notable attack was a shot over the bar. Despite a dominant performance from the Jogoos, the first half ended only 1-0. However, the home side had different ideas in the second half as they ran rampant scoring four goals in the process. Ndaula Moses who came on for goal scorer Herman Wasswa at the start of the second half set up Steven Bengo for the second in the 46th minute.

Kasadha Lawrence extended Villa’s lead in the 52nd minute via a deflected shot off Old timers wall after Villa had a free kick. Muganga Ronald finally got off the mark after netting Villa’s fourth to put the lead beyond reach for the big league side. Muganga again put the icing on the cake when he converted a penalty after being fouled in the forbidden area. The substitute goal keeper could do nothing after he was sent the wrong side.

In the 89th minute, Mbarara Old Timers got a consolation via a penalty after Kisaliita Ayub handled the ball in the area. Congolese import Kabayo Fuendy did no mistake but send Mulindwa Muwonge who had come on for Ochan Benjamin the wrong way.

Speaking to Kawowo sports after the game, Villa’s Mike Mutebi said he was happy with the result but not the performance. “Am happy we are through and scoring five goals was enough to show how much respect we had for the opponents. However, am not happy with the performance because we would have scored close to a dozen goal today”, a smiling Mike Mutebi said adding that he has a lot of confidence in his boys because he sees alot of potential in all of them.

Mbarara Old Timers lead the big league Elgon group with 25 points while Villa sit 9th on the Bell super league table. The Mbarara side had former Express star Tote Songe on the bench. The match kick off was delayed due to the late arrival of match officials.
