Bunamwaya and URA are favorites - Mike Mutebi

SC.Villa tactician Mike Mutebi insists Bunamwaya SC and URA F.C are still favorites for the Bell Uganda Cup despite his side storming the quarter finals in a five star performance yesterday evening. The Blues hammered big league Elgon group table leaders Mbarara Old Timers 5-1 at Nakivubo in the round of 16 tie.

Speaking to Kawowo sports after the victory, Mutebi said “Bunamwaya and URA are favorites but we must

also aim at winning the competition. Some people think knock out competitions don’t have favorites but they do”. The manager who was happy with the win but not the performance hailed his boys for the win though insisting they would have done more damage to the opponents.

Asked whether he had the super league tie against Maroons this Friday in mind when making substitutions, he replied no adding first things first. “Herman Wasswa (scorer of the first goal) was a bit off color today and so i had to substitute him. Then Mulindwa is equally as good as Ochan. At 3-0, i had to give him chance”, said Mike. He blamed lousy defending for failure to keep a clean sheet insisting Kisaliita should have done more.

Mike Mutebi’s win maintains Villa’s history of not losing to a lower division side in the Uganda Cup. According to Villa technical Chairman Sam Tamale Kapeera, the Jogoos last lost such a tie to Entebbe Young in 1987. SC.Villa’s goals were scored by Herman Wasswa, Bengo Steven, Kasadha Lawrence and Muganga Ronald who had a brace.
