
KCB Mt. Gorilla Rally

Uganda has sent a contingent of 10 drivers to compete in this year’s KCB Mt. Gorilla Rally to take place in Rwanda. Among the drivers include NRC title hopeful Jas Mangat, Hajji Abdu Sempebwa, Ponsiano Lwakataka, Rwandan ace Christakis Fitidis, John Consta Karumuna, fans favourite Duncan Mubiru who will once again put his Subaru N14 to test, and little-known Arthur Lugolobi; while Charles Muhangi, Peter Kalule and Mitraros Elefterios, will also make the line up.
The Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally starts off this weekend with a number of participants from different parts of Africa taking part in this year’s edition of the Mountain Gorilla Rally.
Unfortunately Zambia’s youthful driver Mohammed Essa, who landed his maiden Africa Rally Championship (ARC) title after winning the Puma Energy Tanzania International Rally early this month, is likely to skip the Mt. Gorilla Rally to compete in the final round of the Madagascar rally set for November 16-18. Jean Yves Ranarivelo of Madagascar beat Davite Giancarlo to win last year’s Mt. Gorilla Rally. Burundi’s Valery Bukera claimed the final podium slot.
Davite is ranked second on the African rally championship standings amid with 55 points. Essa has accumulated 115 points.
This year’s Mountain Gorilla Rally received a huge sponsorship boost worth $50,000 from Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), according to Rwanda Motorsport Federation.
Rwanda’s premier rally event, which is also round seven on the 2012 FIA ARC calendar, is set for September 21-23.
The official start of the Rally will take place at the Expo ground on Friday 21st September; the whole rally runs in surroundings of Kigali town with in a maximum of 60km as comparison with previous years.
Leg 1 will have 10 special stages and Leg 2 will have 6 special stages. The podium ceremony will be held on Saturday evening on the PSF place.
