National swimmer and Olympian Jamila Lunkuse was the youngest member on Uganda’s team at the Olympic games recently and has been elevated to captain team Uganda at the 11th edition FINA World Swimming Championships in Istanbul, Turkey from December 12-16. 

The 15 year old Plymouth College scholarship student will lead a team of three swimmers that includes Catherine Noble, Joshua Ejilikubinza and herself at the world swimming meet.

It will be the first major event that she has been given a huge responsibility of leading a national team at international level. “She has gained the necessary experience and that is why Uganda Swimming Federation chose her to captain the team,” Peter Mugisha, the federation’s secretary stated. “She has a very bright future and has the capacity of winning on the international stage given time.”

Noble and Ejilikubinza will be making their debut at this international swimming championship while Lunkuse will be making her fourth appearance at the event having participated in the last three various editions in Rome,Dubai and Shangai.

The team will be accompanied by national swimming coach Muzafaru Muwanguzi. The swimmers will all compete in 50 meter freestyle and 50 meter Breastroke.
