
Nineteen year old national golf ace Adolf Muhumuza,tamed the unpredictable par 72 Jinja golf course to claim his first major of the year in the prestigous fourth edition of the Eskom Open over the weekend.
The Toro golf club teenager was impressive over the two days of action returning with 73 and 71 with a level score of 144 gross to claim his first event in Jinja and become one of the various youthful golfers to claim this prestigious golf tournament.
“I am glad to have won on this course that I don’t play on oftenly,” Muhumuza said. “I thought I would have played better especially on the opening day of action. My target was to return too the club house with a score of 68 or even lower.”
Muhumuza’s win guaranteed him a one year sponsorship from Eskom that includes branded golf kit, shirt and pants facilitation for his tours in the country and East African games.
Entebbe’s Dickson Lagoro claimed the professionals overall prize beating Kampala based Brian Toolit in a play-off after tying with a similar scoreline of 146 gross. A total of 13 professionals took part and where battling for six million shillings.
