Team Michael Wokorach with his team mainly composed of MTN Heathens players beat Justin Kimono’s 19-0 to win the One Nite Stand fun rugby at Legends Bar, former Kampala Rugby club on Friday night.
It was the first kind of tournament of to be played under floodlights. Team Wokorach’s triumph came with Shs1.5m in cash and stamped the growing appetite of the Heathens’ players to win every tournament – big or small.
“Today was fun rugby but we came for the money,” said Wokorach, whose team emerged from a pool that also had the 2007 African Champions and Eric Kasiita’s team comprising mainly Toyota Buffaloes.
Asuman Mugerwa and Amin Otim stretched the team’s lead as the score line got out of reach for Kimono and company. Chris ‘Opa’ Lubanga managed two of the three conversions. Earlier, Team Wokorach eliminated Team Anthony Kinene 15-0 and Team Kimono 17-0 ousted Team Ambrose Kamanyire in the semis.
