Zanzibar captain Nadir Haroub a.k.a Cannavaro hopes for an ‘all Tanzania’ final in the Cecafa Tusker Cup 2012 after both Tanzania and Zanzibar qualified for the semi-finals.
The centre back who plies his trade with Tanzania giant club Yanga FC where he is also skipper was delighted that both Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar made it to the last four and prays that both win their encounters and meet in the finals.
“It’s fantastic knowing that we shall be playing in the semi-finals. Am also ecstatic that our brothers Tanzania mainland also qualified for the semi-finals”, Haroub told Kawowo Sports.
“It would be a dream having both of us in the finals”, he added.
It should be noted that Zanzibar is not affiliated to FIFA and their players feature for Taifa Stars in FIFA sanctioned competitions.
To qualify for the semis, Zanzibar eliminated Burundi 6-5 on a post match penalty shootout with Haroub missing his in the process.
On the miss, the highly rated centre back said; “It happens in football. You either miss or score but the most important thing is that we shall be playing in the semis and our focus shifts to the Kenya tie”.
Zanzibar meets Harambe Stars in the first of the two semi-finals at Mandela National Stadium on Thursday at 1600hrs.
Zanzibar’s only Cecafa triumph in this competition came way back in 1995 on Ugandan soil when the heroes beat the Cranes on penalties at Nakivubo stadium.
