Damalie Busingye stroked 27 runs while Janet Mbabazi added an unbeaten 16 runs as hosts Uganda beat Mozambique by 27 runs at this year’s ICC Africa U-19 Cricket T20 tourney on Monday morning at Budo grounds.
Ugandan skipper Rebecca Mirembe won the toss and elected to bat. They set 76 runs with four in hand. Mozambique batters Marlene Domingos and Fatima Jao Moine scored 11 and seven runs respectively but it was not enough to deny them defeat. They were all out for 49 runs with bowlers Janet Mbabazi 3/9 and Pricco Nakitende 1/3 sharing four wickets.
Uganda will now face Tanzania in the final game of the round robin tournament at Lugogo Oval in the afternoon. The Ugandans only lost their first game to Botswana, falling back by seven wickets but stood up strong and consquently beat Kenya and Rwanda. Victory over last year’s hosts and winners could earn coach Grace Mutyagaba’s girls the trophy in front of the home crowd.
