In a bid to boost the squad ahead of the Orange CAF Champions League, former league champions URA FC have signed former centre back Joseph Owino on a one year deal.

The former SC Villa player was recently dropped by Tanzanian outfit Azam FC after the first round of the 2012/13 Vodacom Premier League  season. Earlier reports had indicated that the player was set to rejoin Simba SC but this ends the speculation on his future at the moment.

“Joseph is a timely boost to the squad ahead of the CAF tie against old foes, Cotton Sport. URA FC defense has been leaking in many goals, which is not typical of our past history”, said URA FC General Secretary Henry Mayeku.

Owino is a talented central defender but has been hit recurring injuries in the past seasons ever since he left Uganda for semi-professional football in Tanzania.

According to the club official website, the defender has vowed to work had towards restoring the glory days of the club.

“It is time to work hard and restore the glory of the team”, stated Owino.

Owino will have to compete for a place at centre back with Musa Doka, Sam Mubiru, Sam Ssenkomi and Derrick Walulya
