For the first time in a long while the Uganda Lawn Tennis Association will this year opt to host the prestigious Castle Lite Uganda Open tennis championship at Kampala Club from March 15-23.
“This year’s edition has been moved to Kampala club, cause the ULTA cannot afford hiring the Lugogo tennis complex,” Cedric Babu, the chairman of the local tennis association said. “This option is better for us and we believe all the foreign players together with the local ones will enjoy this new venue.”
For the first time this year the tournament will have a veterans tournament and will see players from the age of 40 and above battling for honours. Last year’s winner David Oringa will have too battle his Lugogo tennis mate Duncan Mugabe,Robert Buyinza and several players from Kenya,Rwanda,Burundi,DR Congo and Zimbabwe.
The 2013 edition will see players battling in the men’s singles, ladies singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles plus the veterans. The winners from the quarter-finals to the finals will walk away with cash prizes and trophies.
ULTA are in talks with sponsors Nile Breweries and other corporate sponsors ahead of the tournament.
