The Uganda Men’s National Basketball Team (Silverbacks) squad has been announced ahead of the 2025 AfroBasket Qualifiers.
The squad is made up of 13 players who will be tasked to raise the Ugandan flag in the first window of the Qualifiers that will tip off on Friday, September 23 in Tunisia.
The roster is made up of seven home-based players as well as five professionals who will be expected to lift the nation on the big stage.
KIU Titans’ Edgar Munaba and UCU Canons’ Joel Kayiira have been summoned and the duo will be searching for their national debuts. The duo has had quite a decent show in the National Basketball League.
Fayeed Baale and Titus Odeke also make the team. The duo has been on a gradual rise since their days at UCU Canons, they have gone all the way to shine at City Oilers cementing their places on the National Team sheet.
Ivan Muhwezi comes into the team as a direct replacement for Jimmy Enabu.
Among those plying their trade across the borders is Ishmail Wainright who has not been active in recent days due to a knee injury. However, his deep knowledge and experience will be crucial in the team’s journey.
Arthur Kaluma will not be part of the team in this particular window since he will be engaged with his college side, Kansas State.
Uganda is pitted in Group B where they will lock horns with Cape Verde, Nigeria and Morocco.
Looking back, it should be noted that Uganda faced Morocco and Cape Verde in the qualifiers for the 2021 AfroBasket and the latter in the quarterfinals of the 2021 AfroBasket.
