Early in the 2024 National Basketball League, KIU Titans have played some exciting basketball with their guards enjoying the largely iso and quick transition game.
Their exciting game will be put to the test when they face conventional City Oilers on Friday night at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
New addition Kasereka Tembo will be up against a tough backcourt of Fayed Bbale and Tony Drileba with the latter most likely to be the primary defender of the Congolese guard.
Juf Mpiya can be explosive from the high post and in the open court but his game will be up to a test when he goes up against James Okello and Titus Lual.
“We are playing City Oilers as a normal game. It’s just a question of how we will execute, it’s not a game that will define us as a team,” KIU head coach Julius Lutwama said ahead of the game.
The Titans (2-1) showed glimpses of what they could be on the offensive end against serious opposition in the opening-day defeat to Nam Blazers but their halfcourt defense left a lot to be desired.
Lutwama will be happy to welcome Peter Obleng back to help with his wing defense but overall their rotation on defense will have to be superb to stop the Oilers who space the floor so well and swing the ball to get that wide-open shot.
Oilers (4-0) have been rolling on the offensive end scoring over 80 points in the last two outings with everyone that steps on the floor contributing.
While Drileba, Bbale, Lual and Okello form the core of the scoring in the current team, there are more scoring options down the roster which makes Oilers a difficult match-up for any team in the league.
