Entebbe Golf Club, the oldest club in the country will this year make history by hosting two major golf tournaments in the golfing calendar.
The oldest club in the country that was started in 1901, will play host to this year’s Tusker Lager Uganda Open due for September 5-8 at the 18 hole course. The last time the club hosted the event was in 2009 when home boys Peter Senduala beat his friend Vincent Byamukama on sudden death at the dreaded 18-hole.
The Uganda Golf Open is the ultimate prize on the local golfing calendar and is organised by the Uganda Golf Union, the games governing body. Golf legend, the late Sadi Onito holds the record of this prestigious golf tournament having won it a record 12 times.
Entebbe will also host the Uganda Ladies Open at a date yet to be mention. “It’s a honour for us to host two major golf tournaments in one year it shows that our club has become a major force in the game of golf,” Oscar Semawere, the club captain said. “It’s part of our plan of improving and taking golf to another level in the country.”
Last year the Entebbe Golf Club hosted the Inter-Region golf tournament that was claimed by Western Uganda.
The club is also set to redesign the 18 hole course to a five star one with plans of also renovating the tennis and basketball courts adjacent to them.
