  • World Rugby HSBC 7s Challenger 2024 Montevideo – Round Three
  • Result: Uganda 22-17 Papua New Guinea

Uganda and Papua New Guinea were tied both at half-time (twelve-all) and at full-time (seventeen-all) in their third pool match during the World Rugby HSBC 7s Challenger 2024 in Montevideo.

Papua New Guinea were yet to win a single match while Uganda were still unbeaten before then. But the match was the closest encounter one could ever imagine.

Both teams took turns exchanging the lead and effecting comebacks with each other. Uganda put points on the board through Adrian Kasito, Philip Wokorach, and Pius Ogena.

Being tied at full-time meant the match would be decided by sudden death (first team to score) in extra time. Uganda prevailed during extra-time with a sudden death try scored by Timothy Kisiga.

Consequently, Uganda stayed unbeaten and finished on top of Pool C. They progressed to the Cup Quarterfinals for the first time this series.

Uganda will face eternal rivals Kenya in the Cup Quarterfinals at 1.55 a.m. EAT.
