Onesmus Atamba was in scintillating form at the second 2013 beach woodball circuit held at Entebbe Sports Beach over the weekend.

The towering 25 year old Ndejje Woodball Club player beat a strong field of 54 as he carded scores of 38 strokes over 12 fair ways, the best of the season thus far in the singles category.

“Am humbled for my wonderful scores, but i would have done better if i had improved on my final putting at the 3rd and 4th gates”, the soften spoken Ugandan seed 2 player, who beat Kenneth Bukenya by a single stroke told Kawowo sports shortly after his remarkable feat.

Another Ndejje University Woodball Club mate,  Nantege Kyolaba Shamusa emerged as the best female in the singles category with scores of 56 strokes over 12 gates. Shamusa held her nerves to beat the reigning USPA and Uganda Woodball Federation player of the year, 2012, Lillian Zawedde, fresh from the Hong Kong Championships, by a single stroke.

“I played with caution and determination to win and the recipe for my effort is this sweet victory”, a jovial press shy Shamusa remarked. Zawedde rubbished aside complacency as alleged by many but rather attributed her dismissal performance to the heavy rains that soaked the sand. “The ball was quite slow due to the soaked sand, but i played my heart out, only that this was not my day to win”, Zawedde, who still leads the overall standings said in a post game interview.

Nevertheless, Zawedde, who scooped a bronze medal at the Hong Kong Championships in early April bounced back with a bang to win the mixed doubles category. Her pair with Kanyike Eric topped with 20 strokes after 6 fairways. Cissy Nakato and Lugwa Isaac recorded 26 strokes to finish second.

The male duo of Bukenya Kenneth and Ntege Jessy, and the female pair of Nantege Shamusa and Nabukalu Daniela won their doubles catergories  with 21 and 29 strokes respectively.

8 clubs participated in the day long circuit that also included corporate companies like Bank of Uganda and Ndejje University.

The next circuit shall be held in August at Entebbe Sports Beach.
