The Uganda Women’s handball national team had a disappointing start to the 2023 African Games, after losing to Cameroon on Thursday.

In the game played at Borteyman Sports Complex, Cameroon won 38-27 in the first game of the preliminary round.

Diana Tiperu who scored the most goals (6) on the day for Uganda believes they will be able to bounce back in the next games.

“I believe we had a good game but lacked sharpness in some moments. I am proud that we put up a spirited performance and I believe we will improve in the next games,” she told Kawowo Sports.

Asked about the physicality of the Cameronians, Tiperu indicated that was not an issue because the coaches had planned for it.

“We knew they (Cameroon) are physical but the coaches told us to be fast so that we avoid contact with them. We tried to do so, and you realise it troubled them a lot.” She added.

Uganda will return to action on Saturday against Democratic Republic of Congo before facing Mali two days later.
