Uganda’s Halima Nakaayi settled for silver in the Women’s 800m final on Tuesday at the African Games 2023 in Accra, Ghana.
On Monday, Nakaayi had eased through the semifinals to reach the final where she was favourite.
However, Ethiopia’s Tsige Geniecu Duguma beat her to gold with a time of 1:57.73.
Nakaayi came second at 1.58.59 while Kenya’s Vivian Kiprotich Chebet completed the medal bracket, winning bronze.
This Nakaayi’s second medal in the same category at the African Games. In Rabat, Morocco (2019), she scooped bronze.
The other Ugandan in the 800m, Susan Aneno finished in sixth place at 2.04.79.
Oratile Nowe from Botswana set a national record, posting a time of 2:01.62.
