World Boxing Council International light heavyweight champion Joseph “Owakabi” Lubega, is in the greatest shape ahead of his first title defense against the towering Egyptian Hany Atiyo on June 14 at Kyadondo rugby ground.
“I am in my best shape ahead of my title fight and I am looking forward to winning the fight,” Lubega said after a sparring session at Centenary Park. “I am not worried by my opponent’s height all I want is the fight too get on.”
Lubega goes into the Rwenzori Boxing Gala with a record of 15 wins 6 loses 1 draw and 8 within the distance. while is North African opponent is 14 wins 1 loss and 10 within the distance.
He will become the second Ugandan fighter to host a world title defense in Uganda in 1997 Justin Juuko defended his WBC International super featherweight title fight against Ukrainean Volodymyr Matkivskyy.
Rwenzori Water has sunk 70 million into that fight that is being promoted by Lash Media, who also manages Lubega.
The other support fights will see Sande “Majje Majje” Swico taking on Mohammed Atef of Egypt for the vacant Africa Boxing Union bantamweight title belt while Thailand based Umar “The Pain” Semata takes on Australian Rhys Karakyriacos for the vacant WBC lightweight Muaythai title belt.
The fight will be supervised by Africa Boxing Union president Houcine Houichi.
