Vipers SC were able to keep their chances of retaining the League crown after winning against URA FC to close in the leading group.

The Venoms secured a 2-0 win over the Tax Collectors in the game played on Saturday at MTN-Omondi Stadium.

The reigning League Champions had to do it without Head Coach Livingstone Mbabazi on the touchline.

According to reports, the coach had lost a close family reletive and thus was given a compassionate leave.

Mbabazi had been under immense pressure and recently served a suspension from the club only to return and lose to KCCA FC in Vipers’ last game before the international break.

Therefore, today against URA FC, the Venoms were seeking a return to winning ways but equally hoping to keep the leading pack in touching distance.

And this was exactly what they did, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Moses Waiswa and substitute Abdu Karim Watambala.

Waiswa opened the scores as early as the second minute in what was his first goal since returning to Kitende in January.

He was well placed just inside the area to curl home from Allan Okello’s lay up.

Watambala who replaced Siraje Ssentamu midway through the second half put the game to bed with a well taken free kick at the death of the clock.

The win takes Vipers to fourth place on 38 points, six behind leaders Kitara FC but the Venoms have played two games less.
