Ugandan defender, Ivan Bukenya, will next week begin trials with PSL champions, Kaizer Chiefs, Kawowo Sports has learnt.  The South African giants, The Amakhosi are due to take on two African players including Uganda’s Ivan Bukenya for trials during their camp in Nelspruit as they beef up their squad ahead of the new season. However due to problems with visas, the two expected players are yet to report in South Africa.

“Now, with Stuart Baxter and his team back in Gauteng, it is believed that Bukenya and another defensive minded player from Ghana will begin trials with the Glamour Boys at some point next week”, a reliable source is quoted to have said.

Bukenya, a 21-year-old centre back, who featured in the 2008 Buganda football Masaza Cup with Mawogola football team  has been playing his football in Iraq for Erbil SC since 2011, when he moved from Proline Soccer Soccer Academy, from where him and team mate, Sula Matova landed the Club a juicy $ 70,000 from the transfer to Ethiopian giants, St George Football Club of Ethiopia and has also represented his national team at senior level, despite his relatively young age.

Bukenya played for Hanna Mixed Secondary School in the Wakiso Post Primary qualifying championships before joining Nkumba University for a Bachelor’s degree in logistics and Management and was part of the Uganda’s Cranes squad that lost 3-0 in early June 2013 during the international friendly against Libya in Tripoli.

Once Bukenya passes the trials, he is set to wear the famous the black and gold jersey, won in the past by former national team captain super , Nei’Mokoko’ Tovey, now a football commentator on pay Television channel, Super Sport , Lucas ‘Rhoo’ Radebe , Patrick ‘Ace’ Nstsoelenegoe and Doctor  ’16V’ Khumalo.

Kaizer Chiefs were founded on 7 January 1970 shortly after the return of Kaizer “Chincha Guluva” Motaung from the USA where he played as a striker for the Atlanta Chiefs of the North American Soccer League (NASL).
