Ahead of the much anticipated 2013 Shell VPower Pearl of Africa Rally, Clerk of the course David Bitalo has revealed that scrutineering of machines commences today at Shell Lugogo.

The exercise will be handled by Viren Goricha and stewards’ chairman Ashok Bhalla from Kenya who arrived in the country on Wednesday.

They will be assisted by a delegate from FIA who also touched down in the country yesterday.

The Shell Sponsored event has attracted 43 entrants led by Africa Rally Championship (ARC) leader Jas Mangat, Zambians Essa Mohammad and Jassy Singh, Kenyan speed merchant Carl Tundo and a number of local drivers including Ponsiano Lwakataka, Ronald Ssebuguzi, Susan Muwonge and Ismail Ssemujju among others.

“Due to the big number of entries, the majority of the cars will be checked today (Thursday) while the remainders will be checked on Friday,” said Bitalo.

Meanwhile, the organizers have announced that Cars will be flagged off on Friday at 1PM for the two day event that starts with a super special stage at Lubiri before they cover eight competitive sections in Zirobwe and return to Kampala for the ceremonial finish. With just eight stages, competitors will virtually have no breather to take the foot off the pedal.
