Uganda proved too strong for their Tanzanian counterparts as the FIBA Africa Zone V U-18 AfroBasket Qualifiers tipped off on Sunday at Lugogo.

The Junior Silverbacks powered to a 103-48 win thanks to a flying start that saw them net 30 points in the opening ten minutes of the game.

Peter Sserunjogi and Brighton Galiwango put Uganda into an early 5-0 lead but Tanzania responded through the crafty Stanley Mtunguja (21 points) to lead 9-7 three minutes into the quarter. That, however, was the last time Tanzania led the game.

Galiwango connected from beyond the arc to put Ugaanda ahead 10-9 and the hosts never looked back, closing the quarter with a 30-16 lead.

Tanzania tried to rally early in the second quarter but ran out of steam later on in the frame and it was nearly one-way traffic the rest of the game.

Galiwango finished with a game-high 23 points to go with 10 boards and 5 assists to lead the way for Uganda.

Tejan Rugette added 19 points highlighted by a putback dunk in the fourth quarter. He also picked 12 rebounds and dished out 7 assists.

Shooting guard Edrine Ekau netted 19 points and picked 9 rebounds. Sserunjogi (14 points) and Victor Makmot (13 points, 10 rebounds) also scored in double figures for the Junior Silverbacks.
