When the three football loving fanatics and friends, Patrick Ssebuliba, Patrick Mugumya and Johnson Musinguzi realized of a common goal in life, one that could keep them happy, they thought of forming a football club.
No other name would best suit the 3 football loving personalities in unison than ‘The Saints”. The club registration formalities and regularities were meant and he is the latest football club in the entire world under sound and trusted management, whose ultimate goal is now to gain promotion to the elite football in the country- The FUFA Super league.
“Patrick (Ssebuliba) invited me Patrick Mugumya and my colleague Johnson Musinguzi to assist him (Ssebuliba) in managing a FUFA Big League football club. This for us is an exciting opportunity to work with in football and further the development of the game we love and we gladly accepted”, says Mugumya, media guru at The Red Pepper Publication, in an e-email Kawowo Sports has a copy.
The Saints Football club is set to play in the FUFA Big league,Uganda’s second tier football league after its directors made a collaboration with Nkumba University Football club, a team that finished 6th in the 2012/13 season.
“We believe football in Uganda is near the ‘take off’ stage and we are currently helping out in solidifying the existing structures for the club ahead of the next football season”, Mugumya concludes.
The Saints Football Club will train and play her home games at Namboole National Stadium and already a massive recruitment exercise is already underway for the club coached by Former Cranes and SC Villa forward, Hussein ‘Sheikh’ Mbalangu.
The Club now runs an administrative office at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Bwoyogerere.
The Genesis of Nkumba University Football Club:
The club gained promotion in the Wakiso Division one league in the year 2007 after securing a slot from Abayita F.C, a fresh team that had just been promoted from Division two. It gained promotion to the Buganda Region league in 2011 season and was promoted to the FUFA big league the following year having beaten UCU 4-2 in a tense two legged play-off match.It played the big league for the season 2012/13 finishing 6th on the log in the Rwenzori group.
Some of the prominient players who have featured for the club are long term captain, Andrew Lubogo, Robert Kakanga, Aziz Kemba (now with IBV in Iceland), Moses Lukyamuzi (formerly at Masaka and Aurum Roses), Andrew Kyekulidde (now at Proline FC), Charles Luzige, Yasser Mugerwa, Dan Nsubuga (Both at Victoria University), David Isabirye, Samson Mutyaba, Jackson Lukudo, Brian Kaita, Medi Ali Muwaya, Nicolas Lubowa, Erisas Sserwadda (formerly at SC Villa), Ssali Edris (formerly at Proline, now at KJT),Tobias Ssenkima, Yunus Kaddu , Micahel Mugote, Aziz Kirya, Joseph Muyiira, Isa Assimwe, Joseph Ssenyonjo (RIP), Roch Somoka, Angel Ndahagire, Paul Kiweewa and a host of many others.
