Entebbe professional Vincent Byamukama, set the early pace at the Tusker Malt Uganda Amateur Golf Open championship at the par 71 Entebbe Golf course with a score of 4 under par 67 on the opening round today.
“I must say that when my game is on I will remain consistent,” Byakuma said. “If my putting and chipping is 100% then am unstoppable I hope I can maintain this going into the remaining rounds.”
Jinja’s Ian Odokonyero shot 1 over par 70 to remain second on the opening round for the professionals who are vying for the top prize with 30 million shillings up for grabs for the top 20 finishers in this Uganda Breweries sponsored four day event.
Last year’s winner Dismus Indiza, from Kenya shot a 4 over par 75 laying outside the top ten of the chasing pack.
“Today was bad for me I was shooting off the fairway and my swinging was problem hopefully that will change in the remaining rounds,” Indiza said. “I think if I can start well tomorrow then maybe I stand a chance of retaining my crown.”
Deo Akope, was 2 over par 73 and lying eight on today’s leaderboard. Opio Onito and Kenya Richard Ainley where third and fourth with 71 gross each.
