He made a happy long trek to visit the mother after quite a while without seeing her. On the the fateful return journey, apparently with the mother, wife and two kids on board, the car in which they were traveling in overturned several times killing all, apart from one of the kids on the spot.

This is this the plightful tale of Simon Okumu, 39, a football coach with FUFA Big league outfit, Ndejje University and has also been an employee of National Water and Sewerage Corporation in Kampala, Uganda.

Okumu, a diligent tactician together with his entire family met their death following a head-on collision on the night of  September 10 at Katugo, Nakasongola, along the Gulu-Kampala Highway.
 
Okumu and two members of his family including wife, Moureen and a child died on the spot when a saloon car he was driving rammed into a stationary trailer at around 1.00am. The car traveling from Gulu to Kampala was carrying six occupants.
 
Three other members of the family traveling in the same vehicle were however rushed to Nakasongola Hospital in critical condition.”Its very saddening, he was a great coach”, says Hussein Bukenya, who played at Ndejje University with the deceased as Coach.
 
Burial is set for Thursday, but there will be church service on Wednesday (11.09.2013) at Christ the king church beginning  09:00am.
 
By press time, an endless catalogue of condolence messages were still pouring on the www.kawowo.com face book and twitter pages that first broke the story.
 
About Simon Okumu:
 
The deceased coach made his debut in the National Water F.C as a player before joining Ndejje University soccer team in 2003 to 2006. He captained the University team as a defender (No.5) to win the National University Games soccer championships in 2005 and also spurred the side to claim the UTL Games soccer trophy in 2007.
 
Okumu also served as Ndejje University Sports Union Chairman in 2004 and later appointed soccer coach in 2010 to handle Ndejje University team for the FUFA Big League and in the University Football League  till his demise.
