Official launch of the 2024 Rotary Cancer Run at Mapeera House

The brave fight against Cancer by the Uganda Rotary group continues with yet another fundraising run this year.

The 12th edition of the Rotary Cancer will happen on Sunday, 25th August 2024 with over 30,000 participants targeted to raise at least Ug.Shs 3 billion.

The target is to raise as much money as possible that will help to establish a cancer center in Nsambya, Kampala.

Lead sponsor Centenary Bank, along with the main organizers officially launched the kit that will be used by the runners from Uganda and across the world.

“Cancer remains one of the leading global health challenges. As Centenary Bank, it is the unwavering obligation to do business for communities, thus being at the forefront of fighting Cancer” Fabian Kasi, Centenary Bank Managing Director said in a speech read for him.

Steven Mwanje, the chairman of the Rotary Cancer Run shared some important statistics about Cancer in Uganda.

There are 35,000 new cases of cancer in Uganda, with 22,000 resulting in death. Late diagnosis is why they die and so over the years, we have partnered with hospitals and health camps to combat this cancer, and we aim to establish a cancer center in Nsambya for radiotherapy, with a funding gap of Ug.Shs 9 billion. The Cancer Center will be unveiled by 2027, with 3 billion allocated this year. We invite many partners to come on board by getting a kit your will help us reach this milestone.

A number of partners have always joined Centenary Bank to bolster this cancer run.

To interest more people join this noble cause, a new stakeholder in Bakaima Real Estate has joined the bandwagon by offering a land title for the top performer.

Karim Kawesa, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bakaima Real Estate officially presented the land title to the organizing team of the 2024 Rotary Cancer run.

The official start and finishing point is at Kololo Independence ceremonial grounds with runners expected to be there by 6 AM.

The registration fee is fixed at Ug.Shs 30,000 that comes with a well-crafted running vest.

All interested parties willing to contribute and take part should register via this link.

Besides the main run in Kampala, there will be similar runs in the rest of the towns in the country and in different countries.
