Ex-Kenya Prime Minister and former presidential aspirant Raila Odinga paid a courtesy visit to newly crowned Kenya Premier League Champions Gor Mahia at the club’s offices at Nyao stadium.
On his visit, Rail, who is known as K’Ogalo’s number one fan offered the club Kshs 1 million (Ugx 29.4million) as a token of appreciation for their first league title since 1995.
The former premier thanked the club officials, players and Coaches Bobby Williamson and Bobby Ogolla for their input towards achieving the feat that had eluded the club for the past 18 years.
“We are here to celebrate the success of Gor after an 18 year wait. I would also like to congratulate the Chairman Ambrose Rachier for the consistency shown throughout the years, as well as the club officials Bobby Williamson and Bobby Ogolla. Winning a league is not easy-it takes a lot of dedication from all the involved parties,” said Odinga.
Odinga urged the current team to emulate the 1987 that did the country proud.
“As champions of Kenya I would like to urge the current team to do the country proud and go as far as the team that won the Mandela Cup in 1987 went”, he added.
With three fixtures remaining, Gor Mahia has already been declared winners after attaining an unassailable lead over its rivals AFC Leopards and Sofapaka.
The club is home to Ugandan players Dan Sserunkuma, Ivan Anguyo and Israel Emuge and managed by ex-Uganda Cranes Coach Bobby Williamson.
