MTN Heathens 24 – 7 Entebbe Sadolin Mongers

D’Mark Kobs 46 –  6 Mutoni Warriors

Ezee Money Rhinos 29 – 25 G4S Pirates

Lira Bulls 00 – 28 Toyota Buffaloes (Walk-over)

Asuman Mugerwa’s last gasp try ensured that the home team, MTN Heathens register a winning start with that much desired bonus point over  the visiting Entebbe Mongers, that on many occasions proves a hard nut to crack.

It was Mugerwa’s second try on the day following Arthur Mukama and Evans Kingshsa’s earlier tries in the first half of the game played at Kyadondo Rugby grounds in Kampala.

Man of the match and Heathens Captain, Michael Wokorach, Bishop Onen and former KCCA footballer, Allan Okello successfully made the conversions before the Mongers got a try of their own from Brian Bamwite that was well transformed into a conversion by the sweet left leg of Adrian Wasswa.

“It’s great to have a winning start. The new faces, Derrick Tukwasiibwe and Joshua Oketcho (promoted from Stallions) have really tried to gel well with the team.” Wokos, the skipper as he is fondly known by his Kyadondo peers remarked at the mandatory captain’s speech shortly after the final whistle.

His opposite number at Mongers, John Wandicho applauded his teammates and tasked them to organize their house into order ahead of next weekend’s tie against Toyota Buffaloes at the dreaded house of pain in Entebbe.

“We shall go back to the drawing board and pull off a positive result in next home game next weekend”, Wandicho said.

Just across the road, at the legends club, Scott Oluch marked his debut in the blue and white D’Mark Kobs’ jersery with a try in his team’s 46-6 victory over the Mutoni Warriors.

Half-time at the Legends had ended 22 – 0 in favour of the Kobs who are seeking to end MTN heathen’s dominance.

Oscar Kalyango scored a brace of tries before Paul Barigye, Cyrus Wathum, Ramathan, new signing Scott Olouch and Andrew Barasa notched a try apiece.

In the earlier fixture at the legends club, G4S Pirates were surprised with an opening match day one loss at the hands of Rhinos who are sponsored by Ezee Money. Rhino’s Cameroonian born international, Tchukam, who who plays for the Rugby Cranes was voted man of the match.

Away in Lira, the Toyota Buffaloes received points on a silver platter as the home team, Lira Bulls failed to meet the mandatory health safety measures of an ambulance at the match venue in the northern Uganda district.

The day’s referee thus could not start the game and the visitors recorded a 28-00 match win without shedding any sweat and calories.

Matches in the Nile Special league resume next weekend with various matches on card. In some of the games to be played next week, MTN Heathens travel to Lira and Toyota Buffaloes will make that short visit to the Lake Side town of Entebbe to play the Sadolin Mongers at the house of pain Stadium.
