Vipers 0-0 NEC
Six-time league champions Vipers played out a goalless draw with visitors NEC in the first leg of the quarter finals of the Fufa Super 8 on Saturday.
In a game the visitors dominated for better parts, the Venoms will be happy with the results that leaves the tie evenly poised.
With their coach Nikola Kavazovic absent from the touchline through Malaria as communicated by the club, the display left a lot to be desired as they failed to cope with the physicality and aggression of Hussein Mbalangu’s men.
Kenneth Kimera and Gusto Mulongo were starved of service in attack while the midfield of Allan Okello, Paul Mbowa and Moses Waiswa struggled against counter parts Allan Mugalu, Enock Ssebagala and Ibrahim Tembo.
NEC thought they had won it when substitute Paul Mucureezi turned home Isma Kawawulo free into the net late on but it was ruled out for offside.
In the end, neither team scored to leave the game open for the second tie that will be played on Tuesday next week at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo.
In the early kick off, Maroons and BUL played out a 1-1 draw.
Action in the competition continues on Saturday at Lugogo with KCCA hosting Kitara while Uganda Cranes Select team will play league champions SC Villa.
