Despite winning against Burkina Faso in the group B opening CHAN match in South Africa, Uganda has dropped further down the drain in the latest FIFA/Cocacola rankings released on Thursday in Zurich.
Uganda drops a place down to 87th on 413 points. On a bright note, Uganda is still ahead of the East and Central African Nations (CECAFA) teams.Kenya is 109th, Tanzania is ranked 118th, Sudan 119th, Burundi 124th and the land of a thousand hills, Rwanda is rated 130th of the 207 FIFA recognized countries.
Uganda’s CHAN group B opponents, Burkina Faso are the highest ranked on 58th, Morocco in 74th while Zimbabwe trails 105th. Horn of Africa nations, Ethiopia and Erirtea are 95th and 200th respectively and South Sudan ranks in 201st.
Milutin ‘Micho’ Sedrojevic believes the Cranes’ ranking can change any time. “These are merely rankings, we shall climb up the ladder”, Micho tells Kawowo Sports from South Africa where Uganda is currently in the CHAN championships.
