Musician Bobi Wine is the latest entrant to officially register for the inaugural race planned to celebrate Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s 57th birth day.
“When it comes to Buganda issues, Bobi Wine becomes Kyagulanuyi and besides, I am ready to run for health’s cause”, the flamboyant musician said as he registered for the race at Bulange, Mengo.
At least 200 runners are expected to participate in the 5km, 10km and 21 km races that will be held on 6th April 2014.
Fistula Cause
According to the organizing committee team headed by the Kingdom’s Minister of Sports, Henry Ssekabembe, the race is targeted to help victims of the fistula disease.
“We as the Buganda Kingdom, we identified urgency to help victims of fistula receive assistance from the race proceeds”, Ssekabembe tells Kawowo Sports. Several corporate companies like Airtel Uganda, Rwenzori Mineral Water, Barclays Bank among others have come on board to support the race promotional strategies.
About Fistula
In medicine, a fistula is an abnormal connection or passageway between two epithelium-lined organs or vessels.
It is generally a disease condition, but a fistula may be surgically created for therapeutic reasons. According to Doctor Mukwaya, Buganda Kingdom’s Minister of Heath, atleast 200,000 women in Uganda today are victims of fistula that results from complicated births, rape among other causes.
