Uganda She Cranes swiftly recovered from the shocking 49-50 loss to Zimbabwe with a well-fought victory over host nation Namibia during the ongoing 2024 Africa Netball Cup on Wednesday evening.

The She Cranes gallantly won 55-43 over the hosts in their second game at the continental fiesta.

Every She Cranes member entered the MTC Dome in Swakopmund municipality with one sole objective; to win the contest; lest the doom of elimination would befall the team.

Hanisha Muhameed started as GoalKeeper, Faridah Kadondi at Goal Defence, Gloria Aya as Wing Defender, Joyce Nakibuule at Wing Attack, the robust Margaret Bagaala as Center, Irene Eyaru in Goal Attack and the towering Mary Nuba as Goal Shooter.

Uganda commenced the game with a mission possible winning the opening quarter with a 4-goal margin; 15-11.

By half-time, the writing was well spelt on the wall that the She Cranes would have an easy victory; extending to a 9-goal lead 32-23.

In the third quarter, Uganda maintained the lead 44-33 and climaxed with a resounding 55-43 victory.

Uganda’s star player in the game was Irene Eyaru who scored 100% of her attempts; 22 out of 22.

Center player Margaret Bagala was named the outstanding player of the match.

Reactions:

“We played according to plan. Namibia as the home team had all the support but we remained focused,” Nelson Bogere, Uganda’s head coach.

Goalkeeper Muhameed cited an improved game to mentality.

“We came to the Namibia game with a winning mentality. Last time, there was poor game management but I thank the entire team for fighting hard to win this game,” Muhameed remarked.

Uganda completes the games in Pool 2 with a contest against Eswatini on Thursday, 12th December 2024.

Eswatini fell 47-58 to host country Namibia in their opening duel.

The top two countries from Pool 2 will qualify for the semifinals.
