Nemostars coach Anthony Ndawula his side would have put up a better show at the just concluded Africa Volleyball Club Championship if everything had gone according to plan ahead of the games. According to Daily Monitor, Nemostars finished 17th out of 23 teams at the 33rd edition of the Africa Volleyball Championships, six places below their 11th rank at their maiden appearance last year.

“On the basis of last year, it is a poor performance,” Ndawula told monitor.co.ug. “But in terms of its self we got better competition than we did last year and depending on the circumstances we went through it was a fair performance,” he added.

For a team that had five players getting the kind of exposure, it had a lot to do with acclimatizing to the new weather conditions. “It was extremely cold, and a new experience for most of these players, warming up was a problem and we found it hard to play our normal game even in situations where the opponents weren’t that tough,” Ndawula said.

Nemostars played all their games in ultra modern indoor facilities and it took them three games to win their first set and four to claim their first win. “Our preparations were not good because we didn’t get a lot of help from the people who were supposed to give us help.”

“Before we came here we asked the Lugogo management for some days to acclimatize ourselves to the facility (MTN Arena), they refused because we had no money,” he added. The competition had no team south of the Sahara in the quarters compared to last year where three made the last eight and on the last four.
