Top Fry Nakuru 23 – 10 KCB
Top Fry Nakuru, a top flight Kenyan rugby club claimed the Kenya Cup on Saturday, beating KCB, 23-10 in a close final played at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, Kenya.
Nakuru who finished their regular season campaign in first place, took time to disengage from gear one, until Javan Murayi’s missed goal attempt for Nakuru following a KCB infringement.
KCB who finished their regular season third took the early lead courtesy of Darwin Mukidza’s 21st minute penalty. Nakuru finally threw the kitchen sink at KCB, Javan Murayi scoring a penalty to level the matters at Nakuru 3-3 KCB.
Number eight, Martin Owila further spurred Nakuru, before KCB flanker Brian Sagara’s yellow card deprived them of a swift comeback.
At the second half restart, the encounter was back to a balance after Sagara’s return, though KCB couldn’t hold Nakuru for long.
Edwin Okemwa’s last minute winner across the white chalk ensured Nakuru’s victory, prior an infringement that saw Mukidza score his second penalty, putting KCB to within two points of Nakuru, the scores 15-13.
Nakuru make the 2014 Bamburi Rugby franchise, Ndovu, set to vie for a semi final spot among the best in the tournament, when they battle Chui in Nakuru this Saturday.
