Rwanda’s top professional golfer Celestine Nsanzuwera won the 2025 Rwanda Golf Open (pros cluster) at the par-72 Kigali Golf Resort and Villas.
Nsanzuwera amassed a total gross mark of 12 under 276 over 4 rounds, four shots better than Zimbabwe’s Promise Sembreiro (280).
Over four grueling rounds, Nsanzuwera opened with a 6-under-66 gross mark and scored 2-under-70 apiece for the remaining three rounds; scoring a combined 41 pars, 20 birdies, 1 eagle and 10 bogies.
He earned a cash reward of $9000 from the total kitty of $50,000 shared by all the 30 professionals who made the cut.
Sembreiro earned $54000 and another Zimbabwean, Visitor Mapwanya who finished third overall took home $3400.
Uganda’s top professional Ronald Rugumayo finished fourth to earn $2400. Rugumayo also earned an additional $2000 for hitting the nearest to the pin.
Two professionals Njoroge Kibugu (Kenya) and Tadeo Rodell Gaita (Uganda) shared joint 5th position and each earned $2000.
Thirty professionals made the treasured cut to partake of the total prize fund in the bag ($5000).
Eleven Kenyans, five Ugandans, five Zimbabweans, three Rwanda professionals, two Zambians, two Nigerians as well one apiece from Cote D’ Ivoire and Ghana made the cut.
Meanwhile, the elite gross cluster was won by Kenya’s Michael Karanga with 4-under 284 in four rounds (71, 70, 71, 72).
Rwanda’s Jean D’ Amour Hitayezu played second fiddle (287) with Kenyan Adel Balala in third place (290) and Uganda’s national team captain Joseph Cwinya-ai (296) following suit.
Peace Kabasweka (Uganda) was the overall elite gross female player with 321 gross (+33).
A number of different African countries were represented at the championship.
Other golfers from United States of America (USA), United Kingdom, Sweden and France also took part.
