Uganda 4 – 0 Rwanda (1st leg)
Uganda national U-17 team, the Cubs has humiliated her counterparts from Rwanda in a 4 – 0 first leg victory played at Nelson Mandela National stadium in Kampala on Saturday.
In an early kick off of the double header, the Cubs kicked off with fluidity and pace. Signs of a one sided fixture were eminent as early as the opening five minutes as Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye, virtually the best player on the day showcased maturity way beyond his age.
It wasn’t long as striker, Shaban Muhammed tapped a Juilus Poloto crossed effort in the 8th minute to shot the Ugandan juniors ahead.
For long spells of the half, Uganda remained the dominant force with Rwanda’s goal custodian, Jimmy Nzeyruwanda stopping several goal bound efforts.
By the resumption of the second stanza of the game, left winger Pius Obuya made it two from another Poloto delivery before he recorded his name on the score sheet, a well time tap in after left back, Alex Komakech’s cross.
Second half substitute, Musa Mukalazi needed just 70 seconds to make his presence felt with an assist for the 4th goal of the day as Mohammed Shaban netted his second on the day, number four for Uganda.
Uganda head-coach, Matia Lule praised the level of commitment from his charges but ruined the missed opportunities.
“We should have even had a bigger margin had we converted all the chances available”, Lule said. His Wasps counterpart, Lois Kanamugire is well assured of a positive home performance.
“We are in a team building process, we keep our fingers crossed for a great home performance”, the veteran coach said in fluent French.
The two teams will face each other in the return leg in a week’s time with the winner facing Zambia.
