Ex-Uganda Cranes coach Bobby Williamson has been appointed as the new Kenya national soccer team; Harambee Stars head coach.
Goal.com Kenya reports that Williamson who is currently with Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC will be assisted by former defender Musa Otieno while Simon Mulama will be the team manager.
“We needed a coach who understands our game and Bobby Williamson is that kind of a coach. He (Williamson) has been around for long having been at the helm of Gor Mahia and we hope with our support, he will be able to bring required results,” FKF boss Sam Nyamweya told Goal.com.
Williamson will start his tenure immediately after the CECAFA Kagame Cup which starts on Friday in Kigali, Rwanda.
“We held fruitful discussions with his club Gor Mahia and we want him to start work immediately after he returns from Cecafa Kagame Cup where the league champions will represent Kenya,” Nyamweya added.
FKF on Sunday sacked the entire the technical staff after failure to reach the group stages of the Afcon qualifiers 2015 after losing 1-0 to Lesotho.
BOBBY WILLIAMSON’S UGANDA CRANES CAREER:
Bobby Williamson took over the Cranes job in 2008 from Hungarian Laslo Casba and was in charge of the team for 66 games. He won 34 games, loss 14 and drawn 18. Under his reign, the Cranes scored 105 goals and conceded 52 in the process.
His most notable achievement was winning four CECAFA Challenge Cup Championships 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012.
