The Uganda Bodybuilding and Fitness Association is in a dire state ahead of the prestigious 2025 World Championships due in the Spanish coastal city of Salou.
Despite having attained the required travel documentation, including Visas, the team of 7 (5 players and 2 officials) finds themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place.
The team has not yet secured the travel air tickets, accommodation and allowances to take home.
The championship commences on the 13th June and will climax by 15th June 2025 in the Salou Auditorium Theatre.
The main obstacle to this international trip is a lack of funds from the National Council of Sports.
In an exclusive interview with some players, they have cast doubt on the lifetime trip, which had backing from the Government. By press time, no official communication had been made yet, but the visas have been issued to the travelling team.
One player lamented, “Government is supposed to support national teams but the athletes are suffering and yet training is very expensive.”
With the players ready to represent the country in this competition, the trip hangs in balance and is left to the National Council of Sports to bail the team out.
