UCU Lady Canons secured a hard-fought 63-60 victory against KCCA Leopards in the National Basketball League encounter at YMCA Court on Sunday.
The Lady Canons won it late with Millicent Otieno’s deep shot that broke the Leopards’ hearts with seven seconds on the clock.
Lady Canons opened up a five-point (14-09) lead at the end of a slow opening period.
The Leopards responded emphatically to level matters (31-31) going into the halftime break.
Perus Nyamwenge’s shot beyond the arc concluded the third period as the Leopards trailed by two points (44-46).
The Mukono-based side held on to secure a narrow but sweet victory.
Matrina Anyango (16 points and 15 rebounds) and Sylvia Nantongo (10 points and 17 rebounds) were instrumental in the Lady Canons’ win registering double-doubles.
Tracy Namugosa (19 points), Perus Nyamwenge (16 points) and Susan Rebecca Aanyu (16 points) scored in double digits for the Leopards.
Despite the loss, Leopards are on top of the log with 29 points while Lady Canons lie fifth with 21 points, having played three games less.
