NCBA Bank Uganda announced a financial contribution of Ug.Shs 1.45 billion towards the Makerere University marathon for the next five years, until 2030.

This Makerere University marathon will take place on Sunday, 17th August 2025 with the 42KM, 21KM, 10KM and 5KM categories.
There are intense preparations to have a successful marathon whose theme is “Run For Education, Run For Inclusion”.
The official launch at the famous Makerere University Freedom Square witnessed the announcement of a platinum sponsor in NCBA Bank Uganda.

The financial institution announced a financial contribution of Ug.Shs 1.45 billion for the next five years, until 2030.
Makerere University Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, flanked by the chairperson of Makerere University Endowment Fund Board Dr Maggie Kigozi and NCBA Bank Uganda CEO Mark Muyobo witnessed this momentous announcement.

“Thank you NCBA for this huge investment in Makerere University and in our youth. I urge all students, staff and alumni with their families, and all well wishers to buy kits and participate in this marathon, which will also feature a music festival and other fun activities, making the day a true Makerere family day” Professor Nawangwe urged during the launch.
This will be the first full international standard marathon at Makerere University.




NCBA Bank Uganda has offered the sum of UGX 1.45 billion to support the marathon for the next five years and CEO Muyobo envisages this as a big venture.
“At NCBA Bank, we believe in the power of partnerships to drive real impact. That’s why we are proud to partner with Makerere University because the marathon champions access to education, health and opportunity for all” Muyobo remarked.

Muyobo also pledged to support research at the University and tuition fees for financially disadvantaged students.
This five year span also underscores the bank’s commitment to education, inclusion and long term community development.




The proceeds from the marathon will be invested in improving the one stop Disability Support Centre.
Professional elite runners, aspiring athletes and recreational runners will all be accommodated in this marathon.
