Maroons Football Club has on Thursday morning unveiled Unar Abdallah Loi as their new head coach on a three-year deal.

The Prison Warders confirmed the appointment of the coach, indicating he takes over with immediate effect.

“Maroons Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Umar Abdallah Loi as the new Head Coach on a three-year contract, effective from July 2025 to July 2028, with a club option for an additional year. Umar will join the club next week to commence official duties.” Reads the statement.

Mohammed Ssenfuma who has been at the helm of the club for the last three years will now serve as assistant coach.

The development comes as a result of FUFA Club Licensing Process that requires Clubs in the Uganda Premier League to have only CAF A Certified head coaches.

Ssenfuma who has performed well at Maroons only has a CAF B and thus could not meet the set requirements.

Besides Ssenfuma, Simon Peter Ojok is maintained as Second Assistant, Maxwell Okello as Fitness and Conditioning Coach, Ken Rogers Tezigwa as Goalkeeping Coach, and Stephen Ekidu, who rejoins the technical staff.

Umar Abdallah has recently been coaching in South Sudan with Malakia Sports Club who finshed runners-up in the South Sudan Super League, securing multiple titles with Yei-Joint Stars Women’s team (South Sudan Women’s League Champions in 2022/23 and 2023/24), and achieving South Sudan Cup victories with Superstar FC in Bor, while nurturing talents across the West Nile region who earned call-ups to the South Sudan National Team.

“We are confident that Umar’s passion, coaching methodologies and result-oriented approach will drive Maroons FC to new heights. The club warmly welcomes Umar and his new technical team as we embark on this exciting journey together.” The Club CEO Rodrick Muhumuza indicated.

The 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season is expected to kickoff in September.
