The National Men’s Basketball Team, the Silverbacks, has undergone a makeover in preparation for the 2025 AfroBasket.
The announcement of the 12-man squad has generated excitement for this highly anticipated continental tournament.
Among the new additions is Rugette Tejan Joel, who earned the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the recent FIBA Africa U-18 Zone V qualifiers.
Other newcomers to the team include Lubowa Naseef and Christopher Mubiru. Emmanuel Mugenga takes the place of Jacksen Mori, who was not cleared in time by FIBA.
Notably absent from the roster are Titus Lawal, who is sidelined due to injury, as well as the Namuwongo Blazers’ “big three” of Jimmy Enabu, James Okello, and Tonny Drilleba.
Fayed Baale, Ivan Muhwezi, and Joel Kayiira are the only home-based players who made the final cut for the team.
The Silverbacks are scheduled to depart for South Africa tomorrow (Thursday), where they will hold a training camp until August 11 before flying to Angola.
Uganda was drawn in Group D alongside Senegal, Mali and Egypt.
