Burkina Faso players celebrate one of their four goals against Central African Republic

This was the first victory for Burkina Faso who succumbed to co-hosts Tanzania 0-2 in the official opening match of the tournament on Saturday.

Burkina Faso clobbered Central African Republic 4-2 during a Group B clash of CHAN 2024 at the Benjamin Mpaka National Stadium, Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

Papus Ouattara, Abdoul Abass Guiro, Patrick Malo and Abdoul Baguian scored for the triumphant Burkina Faso team.

Sydney Tchibinda and Ange Zoumara got the goals for Central Africa Republic.

Ouattara put the Burkinables ahead as early as the 11th minute.

The joy was short lived with Tchibinda’s equalizer on the quarter hour mark.

The opening stanza ended a goal apiece.

Burkina Faso restored their lead with Guiro’s well struck penalty in the 61st minute.

Another penalty by defender Malo with 12 minutes to play extended the West African’s lead to 3-1.

Baguian put the game beyond Central African Republic’s reach with the fourth goal in the 84th minute.

In the fifth minute of added time, Central African Republic scored their second goal through Zoumara.

Ouattarra was named man of the match.

Tanzania edged a hard-fighting Mauritania 1-0 in the second game on Wednesday, 6th August 2025.

Veteran defender Shomari Kapombe scored the all-important goal on the evening in the 89th minute.

Tanzania now has six points from the two matches played so far. Burkina Faso has three, Madagascar and Mauritania have a point apiece as Central African Republic is yet to get any point.

CHAN is played by players who feature in the respective domestic leagues on the African continent.

CHAN 2024 was delayed from the year 2024 and pushed forward to 2025.

The tournament is being played in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar.
