Uganda Cranes progressed to the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) for the very first time.

Uganda drew 3-3 with South Africa in front of 34,194 fans at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, on Monday, August 18, 2025.

In added time, Rogers Torach stood up to the occasion and powerfully slotted the ball past South Africa’s custodian, Samukelo Xulu.

With Yunus Sentamu, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, and Abdul Karim Watambala still on the pitch, it was a surprise to see Torach take the penalty during the big occasion.

Speaking in the post-match conference, Uganda Cranes head coach Morley Byekwaso revealed the reason behind the big moment.

“The moment was tense and it was Yunus (Sentamu) who was supposed to take the penalty but he decided to give it to (Rogers) Torach,” Byekwaso noted.

“It was a tense moment that called for a shift in roles. It’s great to see such unity and brotherhood in the team but we thank Torach for his confidence,” he added.

The result takes Uganda to the quarterfinals and the clash will be played on Saturday, August 23 at 5:00 pm.

  1. Great job dear may you keep on updating some of as who have no access to watch the games live but what we have is love for our brother’s. I’m happy seeing R.Torach and A.Okello representing an entire region and of course scoring goals to make it into the quarter final.
    Thank you so much.
