2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateur Golf Open

Round one: Wednesday, 3rd September (18 Holes)

Venue: Lugazi Hills and Country Club

The par-71 Lugazi Hills and Country club course will be a bee-hive of activity for the third successive week as the prestigious Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open series continue.

The 84th amateurs open drives off with round one on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025.

The top amateur golfers: majority from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Zambia will square up for arguably the biggest golfing fiesta on the land.

The opening round followed a successful practice round a day earlier.

Holder Joseph Reagan Akena, former winners Joseph Cwinya-ai and Godfrey Ssekibejja are all back to fight for the top honors.

The earliest tee will be on at 8:20 am with long hitting Aaron Mugomola, Yassin Boyi and Peter Etomet playing in game one.

Pre-tournament favourite and defending champion Akena commences his journey at 11:10 am alongside Jinja club’s Sande Lulet and Uganda Golf Club’s Paul Habyarimana.

Akena was a caddy during the ladies open a week ago and used the opportunity to maneuver through this hilly course.

“I am set physically and mentally. I will be playing at home on a course that made me who I am” Akena remarked in the pre-tee off vibes during the official practice round.

Earlier at 10:40 am is another contender and former winner Joseph Cwinya-ai who will drive off with the duo of Wasim Ali and Salum Hakizimana.

Another former winner in action will be Andrew Ssekibejja, playing at 11:40 AM with Juma Abiti and Dominic Musonda.

Other promising gross players ready to spark stiff competition will include Joseph Ngobi, John Musimenta, Anthony Otukei, Abdul Kakeeto, Joseph Kasozi, Titus Okwong, Ivan Sekulima, Michael Tumusiime, Abdallah Kakooza and Godfrey Kambale, among others.

Virtually, there is no room for error, starting with the first day of action for this 72-hole competition which will climax on Saturday, 6th September 2025.
